FTxR MISSION REGARDING GIFTS TO THE HHRC:

The following list of FTxR gifts made to the Houston History Research Center documents the fulfillment of our mission "to support the collections of the Texas and Local History Department, the Archives and Manuscripts Department, and the Special Collections Department of the HHRC of the Houston Public Library."

GIFTS OF THE FTxR TO THE HHRC TO DATE:

  1. Purchase of retrospective conversion of the Texas Room map collection to electronic format for the online public access catalog (2004)
  2. Friends of the Texas RoomPurchase of full-size reproduction of the 1869 Wood Map of Houston for use by Texas Room patrons
  3. Purchase of three cabinets for the storage of microfilm copies of newspapers (2006)
  4. Purchase of four custom-built wooden atlas stands
  5. Partnered for three consecutive years with the Houston Public Library for Texas Treasures grant to transcribe and digitize oral history tapes (2008)
  6. Purchase of archival framing of two paintings by Thomas Flintoff (2011)
  7. Purchase of life-size copy (35" x 50") of the 1867 Kosse and Scott map of Houston to the HMRC (in honor of retired HMRC manager Kemo Curry) (2011)
  8. Purchase of twelve custom-made plinths ordered from Ty Art and installed in the six two-sided wrought iron exhibit cases original to the Julia Ideson Building (2014)
  9. Paid for setup and first two years subscription for OnCell audio tour of the Julia Ideson Building (2015)
  10. Purchase of Zytron overhead scanner (2016)
  11. Funded the digitization of the last 43 tapes in the HMRC's Oral History Collection (2016)
  12. Purchase of 12 PEM datalogger devices for temperature and humidity monitoring (2018)
  13. Purchase of steel AV Equipment Rack for Memory Lab (2019)
  14. Paid registration for staff to attend annual 2019 conferences: Society of Southwest Archivists, Oral History Association, American Institute of Conservators, and Texas A&M Book History Workshop (2019)
